ROUGH TRADE SHOPS: POST-PUNK ( 2003)

El sello ROUGH TRADE en su recopilación "Rouge Trade Shops: Post-Punk" (Extensa, 44 temas, casi dos horas y media) da cita algunos de los paradigmas del género, en su mayoría grupos clásicos que siempre estuvieron a la sombra de sus coetáneos Sex Pistols y The Clash, Wire y Gang of Four, con temas pertenecientes a sus obras cumbres, Pink Flag (Harvest, 1977) y Entertainment (EMI, 1979), respectivamente. Ex-Lion Tamer y I Found that essence rare muestran la infinita influencia que tuvieron y tienen ambas formaciones, llegando a abarcar artistas del calibre de REM, Fugazi, Elastica, Franz Ferdinand, Rage Against the Machine o The Rapture. También rescatan otros clásicos de la época inglesa, como The Fall o Public Image Limited, destacando entre otras quizá la agresiva We are all prostitutes de The Pop Group, la cual contiene algunas de las frases más radicales del álbum (“Everyone has their price / And you too will learn to live the lie / Capitalism is the most barbaric of all religions”).

THE BONGOLIAN

El multinstrumentista Nasser Bouzida se embarca en «un viaje musical psicodélico hacia los territorios de la galaxia funk, tomando sus poderosos ritmos con los bongos y su latin soul». Y todo ello cocinado con ritmos originales de pista de baile extraídos del órgano Hammond, bongos, sintetizadores analógicos o vibráfono.

En el disco A PSYCHEDELIC TRIP TO OUTER BONGOLIA (2007)Bouzida se encargó de la composición, arreglos, producción, interpretación y grabación de los temas en una cinta analógica de ocho pistas en sus propios Ramshackle Studios. Y luego fue mezclado en Londres por Nick Terry, quien trabajó con el grupo Klaxons.

El grupo The Bongolian fue fundado en 2001 por Bouzida como un proyecto paralelo a Big Boss Man para experimentar otros sonidos. Su música mezcla elementos funk, soul, latin, psicodelia o jazz, con una percusión muy marcada y unos bongos en constante ebullición. Un vendaval de groove. Entre sus influencias confesas figuran Jimmy Smith, Tito Puente, Ray Barretto o Mongo Santamaría. Sus anteriores trabajos fueron 'The Bongolian' (2003), que consechó un gran éxito de crítica, y 'Blueprint (2006).

El multiisntrumentista Bouzida ha reclutado diferentes formaciones para llevar al directo sus creaciones individuales. El grupo actual lo forman Trevor Harding (bajo), Bradley Burgess (guitarra) y Reinis Axellson (percusión).

Su primera actuación fue como cabeza de cartel del festival de jazz de Rennes (Francia), a lo que siguieron conciertos por toda Europa. La banda se fue de gira también con Holly Golightly, con quien compartió escenario.

"Marina Records, sello con sede en Hamburgo, lanza esta trilogia de discos recopilatorios, que recuerda por su planteamiento a la serie Afrodisia de Nuevos Medios o Improvisto! de HiTop Records.

El concepto consiste en recoger temas alemanes publicados entre los años 66 y 74 y caracterizados por el groove... clara influencia americana y con señas estilísticas del funk y el soul (con una aparición del jazz menos abundante que en las colecciones antes indicadas.)
